Derivatives of Trig Functions

Derivatives of Trigonometric Functions

In calculus, trigonometric functions come up often and in a variety of contexts. Here are the derivatives of the six basic trigonometric functions:

Common Derivatives of Trigonometic Functions

  • d/dxsin x = cos x

    d/dxcos x = - sin x

    d/dxtan x = sec2 x

  • d/dxcsc x = -csc x cot x

    d/dxsec x = sec x tan x

    d/dxcot x = -csc2 x

Example

Given that y =     cos x    , find dy/dx
